The eight-time European Tour Number One further confirmed his legendary status as he inspired Europe to a 14 1/2 - 13 1/2 victory at The 2010 Ryder Cup. Awarded the OBE in 2004.

The cheers of support and encouragement could be heard in Dublin, as Darren Clarke strode onto the 1st tee at the K Club in 2006. The 36th Ryder Cup in Ireland was arguably Clarke’s Ryder Cup. Having tragically lost his wife to cancer only six weeks earlier, Ian Woosnam selected Clarke as one of his wild cards and the rest is history. Clarke did not let him down, winning all three of his matches as Europe went on to convincingly beat the USA.

During the 1980s and 1990s, Ian ‘Woosie’ Woosnam was a name never far away from the top of the leaderboard. A winner on both the PGA and European Tour, the highlight of his career was undoubtedly his Masters’ triumph in 1991.

The 1999 Ryder Cup was probably one of the more famous matches. A controversial few days, won by the USA, but marred by alleged over-zealous celebrations from the home team aswell as criticism for James regarding his wild card picks. Six-time major winner, Faldo was not one of the picks and all three of James’ picks only played once and all lost. However, James would not change a think and his book Into the Bear Pit is a fascinating read about all that happened that year.

Many golfers are successful. Some win numerous Majors, some spend weeks as world number one, some win on all tours globally. Paul Lawrie is a successful golfer, but he has two iconic golf moments that golf fans will remember forever.

Paul is not only the first Irishman to captain the Ryder Cup team, but he is also a winning captain, victorious at the 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.

Tom Lehman is the only player in history to be voted ‘Player of Year’ on all three tours operated by the PGA Tour. This is a testament to the consistent nature of his golf, where on the PGA Tour, he not only won five times, but was runner up 19 times in between 1992 and 2006.

John Daly won the 1995 Open at St Andrews, beating Constantino Rocca in a play-off. Only one shot further behind and in his first full season on the European Tour was New Zealand’s Michael Campbell. Campbell had been two shots ahead at the start of the final round, but this experience would hold him in good stead ten years later.

Barry played 26 successive seasons, from 1986 to 2011, on the European Tour. Barry's best years came in the early to mid-nineties, when he made the top ten of the Order of Merit three times, with a best of fifth in 1992. He won four European Tour events between 1988 and 1994

It was the fist pumping rookie, Phillip Price's 3&2 victory over Phil Mickelson that helped Sam Torrance's European team beat the USA at the Belfry in 2002.

Clark played on the PGA Tour and Nationwide Tour from 1990 to 2000. He had one win on the Nationwide Tour and a best finish of tied for third place on the PGA Tour. He was tied for sixth in the 1994 U.S. Open.

Having missed out in a play-off in 2017 for one of the European Senior Tour Qualifying School's five cards, the evergreen Shacklady returned in 2018 finishing fourth and getting his card.

2007 was the breakthrough year for James Kingston. A winner on the Sunshine and Asian Tours in the 90s, European Tour success finally arrived at the South African Airways Open. James also topped the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit that year.

Since turning 50, Remésy has played senior golf on the European Senior Tour and the PGA Tour Champions. On the PGA Tour Champions his best result was to be tied for 4th place in the 2016 American Family Insurance Championship. In 2018 he won the Swiss Seniors Open, his first win on the European Senior Tour.

Jose turned professional in 1986 and won a place on the European Tour at the 1990 Qualifying School. After struggling in 1991 and 1992 he performed steadily on the tour from 1993 onwards, and in 2000 he reached a career high of thirteenth on the Order of Merit. His two European Tour wins came at the 1994 Heineken Open Catalonia and the 2000 Dubai Desert Classic.

One of relatively few Austrian touring professional golfers, and as of 2008 is his country's second highest ranked player, behind Bernd Wiesberger

Peter won three of his four matches, winning two fourball matches in the 1993 Ryder Cup, playing with Ian Woosnam, and beating Corey Pavin in the singles.

He has spent a large part of his career playing on the European Tour, where he made the top one hundred on the Order of Merit every year from 1983 to 1993, with a best ranking of 22nd in 1989
