The Legends Tour is the current name of the European Senior Tour and is the official tour for players over 50. It is part of the PGA European Tour alongside the DP World Tour and European Challenge Tour.
The European Senior Tour was formed in 1992 after calls from 60 leading professionals to form a senior tour, five years after the first Senior Open in 1987. In 2017 the tour was renamed the Staysure Tour after travel insurer Staysure became the first headline sponsor of the tour. This led to a ground-breaking joint venture in 2020 between the European Tour Group and Staysure Founder and Group CEO Ryan Howsam, and the Legends Tour came into being.
The vision for the tour was laid out by Ryan in this 2020 article and includes working with amazing venues, creating a compelling TV show, putting the legends front and centre of the brand and creating unique opportunities for amateur golfers to play alongside the professionals and celebrities in live tournaments. Ryan himself plays on the tour as an amateur.
Today, tournaments may include a Championship Pro-Am behind closed doors, the charity Celebrity Series and the Legends Experience, culminating in the tournament finale. All feature professional players under tournament conditions and offer playing experiences for amateurs – a truly unique golfing experience that make great memories and a talking point with golfers everywhere!
The Legends Tour features a strong playing membership that includes former Major Winners, World Number Ones and Ryder Cup Players and Captains and a growing number of celebrities playing for charity. The Legends Tour boasts a truly international schedule with tournaments taking place in the UK & Ireland, mainland Europe, the USA and the exotic climes of the Indian Ocean at the conclusion of the season.
The Legends Tour team work closely with promoters and golf clubs around the world as well as with the European Tour Group, who also manages the DP World Tour, the developmental Challenge Tour and is the Managing Partner of Ryder Cup Europe, which, alongside the PGA of America, administers golf’s greatest team contest, The Ryder Cup.
The Legends Tour partners with select businesses who share our passion for golf. We offer a range of bespoke sponsorship packages and have an array of creative ways in which you can activate your sponsorship whether as a tour partner or tournament partner. Contact our team to find out more.
