John Daly won the 1995 Open at St Andrews, beating Constantino Rocca in a play-off. Only one shot further behind and in his first full season on the European Tour was New Zealand’s Michael Campbell. Campbell had been two shots ahead at the start of the final round, but this valuable experience would hold him in good stead ten years later.

Many golfers are successful. Some win numerous Majors, some spend weeks as world number one, some win on all tours globally. Not only is Paul Lawrie a successful golfer, but he has two iconic golf moments that golf fans will remember forever.

The eight-time European Tour Number One further confirmed his legendary status as he inspired Europe to a 14½ – 13½ victory at The 2010 Ryder Cup. Awarded the OBE in 2004.

A serial winner on tour and on senior tours, four top 5 finishes in the Open, a Ryder Cup captaincy and a successful battle against ill health represent the strength of Mark James.

The cheers of support and encouragement could be heard in Dublin, as Darren Clarke strode onto the 1st tee at the K Club in 2006. The 36th Ryder Cup in Ireland was arguably Clarke’s Ryder Cup.

During the 1980s and 1990s, Ian ‘Woosie’ Woosnam was a name never far away from the top of the leaderboard. A winner on both the PGA and European Tours, the highlight of his career was undoubtedly his Masters’ triumph in 1991.

Tom Lehman is the only player in history to be voted ‘Player of Year’ on all three tours operated by the PGA Tour. This is a testament to the consistent nature of his golf, where on the PGA Tour, he not only won five times, but was runner up 19 times in between 1992 and 2006.

A sixth place finish at the US Open in 1994 at Oakmont was the highlight of Clark’s PGA Tour career, but it has been his arrival in Europe that has seen his best golf. Now a five-time European Senior Tour winner, he seems at home on this ‘side of the Pond’.

Since joining the European Senior Tour, Barry has preserved his reputation as a fierce competitor and a regular winner. There are not many golfers who lead after the 3rd round then shoot 66 in the final round to win by three, defeating Major winner Angel Cabrera in the process.

Having missed out in a play-off in 2017 for one of the European Senior Tour Qualifying School’s five cards, the evergreen Shacklady returned in 2018 finishing fourth and getting his card.

2007 was the breakthrough year for James Kingston. A winner on the Sunshine and Asian Tours in the 90s, European Tour success finally arrived at the South African Airways Open. James also topped the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit that year.

Back to back Open de France titles in 2004 and 2005 have been the highlight of Jean-François Remésy’s career. Jean-François reflected that, “apart from a Major, there is no bigger tournament for a Frenchman to win than this one”. He did it twice!

Jose Cóceres was the first Argentine to win on the PGA Tour since Major winning, Roberto De Vicenzo. A winner in both Europe and the US, he has continued that winning mentality with two victories on the European Senior Tour.

Born in the Austrian capital, Vienna, Markus enjoyed a good amateur career before venturing onto the European Tour. He represented Austria four times in the Eisenhower Trophy, the World Amateur Team Championship, won the Swiss and German Austrian amateur Opens before winning twice on the European Tour.

Peter represented Great Britain & Ireland in the 1985 Ryder Cup and he turned professional a year later. He has had success on both the European and Challenge Tours, and this success has also extended to the European Senior Tour with a win at the Arras Open.

Australian, Fowler turned pro in 1977 and it didn’t take him long to record his first victory on tour, winning his home Open in 1983. A four-time winner on the PGA Tour of Australasia, Fowler spent the majority of his career in Europe.

It was the fist pumping rookie, Phillip Price’s 3&2 victory over Phil Mickelson that helped Sam Torrance’s European team beat the USA at the Belfry in 2002.
