The Staysure Legends Tour headed to Scotland’s north-east coast for the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship, hosted by Colin Montgomerie. It was a landmark week, with the New Course at Trump International Golf Links staging professional tournament golf for the first time.
Set among towering dunes on the Aberdeenshire coast, the New Course offered a complete test of links golf. Wind and rain made Saturday a battle before calmer conditions brought lower scoring on the final day, when Peter Baker set the course record with a 65.
Twelve months after losing a play-off for the title, Darren Fichardt returned to win by five shots on -12. The South African overcame a mid-round wobble, with a crucial par save at the 14th and a birdie at the 15th. He then finished in style, sending a majestic 4-iron to within a couple of feet at the par-five 18th for a tap-in eagle and a closing 68. Sweden’s Mikael Lundberg finished runner-up after a closing 67. The victory makes the 2025 Rookie of the Year the first professional winner on the New Course.
