The Legends Tour is here…

The eagerly anticipated and exciting new era for over-50s golf in Europe is here with the launch of the Legends Tour following a ground-breaking joint venture agreement between the European Tour and Staysure Founder and Group CEO Ryan Howsam.

The Legends Tour was launched at The European Tour’s headquarters at Wentworth Club in 2020, with former Ryder Cup Captains Darren Clarke, Mark James, Tom Lehman, Paul McGinley, Colin Montgomerie and Ian Woosnam along with 2005 U.S. Open Champion Michael Campbell and 1999 Open Champion Paul Lawrie named as the Tour’s first official ambassadors who will play a key role in implementing the Tour’s schedule in the months to come.

Captain Bjørn …

Thomas Bjørn will be making his Legends Tour debut at the Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship hosted by Ian Woosnam this week. The 15-time European Tour winner and 2018 Ryder Cup winning captain will be looking forward to making his Legends Tour bow in the first event on European soil since the Tour rebranded in 2020. Bjørn who is the most successful Danish golfer of all-time turned 50 earlier this year after competing on the European Tour for 25 consecutive seasons.

A golf club with rich history…

The Trevose Golf & Country Club land can be dated back over many centuries, and it was an amateur architect by the name of Dr. Penrose Williams who took it upon himself to purchase the land in the early 1920s. In 1925, Williams and world-renowned golf course architect Harry S. Colt collaborated to design The Championship Course, which officially opened for play later that year.

The golf course has now been part of the same family for many years after John C. Gammon purchased Trevose Golf & Country Club from Dr. Williams in 1955 and still to this day the club is run by the Gammon family.

Situated on the North Cornish Coastline, it is thought to be one of the most remarkable links locations in the United Kingdom. From the staggering views at the top of the sand dunes, to the noise of the Atlantic Ocean crashing against the bedrock of the vast coastline, this golf course will give the players a true test of links golf.

No two days are the same…

Trevose Golf & Country Club is a stern test of golf for anyone, especially because the weather could be completely different from one day to the next. Due to it hugging the Cornish coastline, this can mean high winds are almost inevitable which will give the players another element to take into consideration. With the front nine holes being close to the coastline and sand dunes, and the back nine being more inland as you head towards the clubhouse, the course offers challenging holes in all regards.

A long wait is over…

It has been a long wait for the five 2020 Qualifying School Graduates who will be making their debut in the 2021 schedule following the cancellation of the 2020 Legends Tour season due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The five Legends that will be joining us consist of, New Zealander Michael Long, Scotsman Euan McIntosh, Canadian David Morland IV, Englishman Andrew Raitt and Spaniard Carl Suneson.
