Staysure Legends Tour player Stephen Gallacher has been named Captain of the European Junior Ryder Cup team for a record third time ahead of the 2027 contest in Ireland.

Gallacher, who previously led Europe in 2023 and 2025, will once again take charge of Europe’s brightest young talents as they bid to regain the trophy on home soil at one of the most anticipated Junior Ryder Cups in the event’s history.

The 2027 edition will hold special significance as the tournament returns to Ireland during the centenary year of the Ryder Cup. Team matches will be contested at Limerick Golf Club before the singles take place at Adare Manor, which will also host the Ryder Cup later that week.

Gallacher’s appointment comes during a strong season on the Staysure Legends Tour. The former Ryder Cup star finished runner-up to fellow European Ryder Cup player Jamie Donaldson at the season-opening Staysure Marbella Legends and has since added a top-five finish in Barbados and a top-10 result at the Costa Navarino Legends Tour Trophy. His continued success on the course, combined with his passion for developing young players, makes him one of the ideal figures to lead Europe’s next generation into the 2027 Junior Ryder Cup.

Gallacher admitted he did not need long to consider the opportunity when approached about returning as Captain.

“I’m extremely proud to be leading Europe for the third time, especially in Ireland for the centenary,” said Gallacher.

“When Guy Kinnings gave me a phone call and asked me if I would be up for it again, I didn’t need any time to say yes. I absolutely love the tournament.

“You’re watching future stars, future Major winners, future world number ones and future Ryder Cup players. For me, it’s a privilege, so there was no question in my mind that I wanted to do it.”

The Junior Ryder Cup returns to Ireland for the first time since 2002 and Gallacher believes the atmosphere at Limerick Golf Club and Adare Manor will provide a memorable experience for the next generation of European stars.

“I can’t wait to get there,” he said.

“I think the crowds are going to be off the charts. I know there could be between 5,000 and 10,000 fans coming to the Junior Ryder Cup. The last couple of years it’s only really been members and guests, so this will elevate the whole event and give the kids a real feeling of what it’s like to play in front of big crowds.

“Adare Manor is unbelievable – the Augusta of Europe really. To actually see the kids play there on the big stage is something I can’t wait for.”

After narrowly missing out to the United States in 2025, Gallacher is determined to help Europe reclaim the trophy.

“We want to go there and win it, definitely,” he said.

“Last year was tough. It was really close with nine holes to go and it was a coin toss, but America finished off really strongly.

“The kids were hurting and we were hurting, but I was so proud of them. It’s tough to go away to a different continent to play. Now we’re back on home soil and there’s nothing more I’ll be trying to do than bring the trophy back.”

Over the next 18 months, Gallacher will begin familiarising himself with the players hoping to earn selection, with team culture and camaraderie once again central to his approach.

“I can’t wait to work with the juniors over the next year and a half,” he said.

“I’ll be going to tournaments and introducing myself to the kids. It could be 12 new players this time, so some of them I won’t know, but I’ll try to familiarise myself with them so that when it comes to picking the team, we know each other.

“We only get them for a small amount of time, so the major thing is trying to get them gelling quickly, playing as a team and fighting for one cause. They’re amazing golfers already, so it’s about bringing them together as quickly as possible.”

Gallacher believes creating an environment where players can enjoy themselves and express their talents will give Europe the best chance of success.

“I’ll do everything in my power to try and bring the trophy home,” he said.

“”It’s about enjoying it, you’ve got to create an environment where the kids have fun and can express themselves.

“For me, it’s a privilege to watch these stars of the future. I want to give them the opportunity to go out and enjoy the experience because if they can play well in this environment, they can play well in anything going forward.

With one of the Staysure Legends Tour’s most respected competitors once again at the helm, Europe will head to Ireland hoping Gallacher can guide the continent’s next generation to Junior Ryder Cup glory and reclaim the trophy from the United States.
