Henrik Stenson makes his Staysure Legends Tour debut in Barbados next week as the 2016 Open Champion joins an all‑star field for the Barbados Legends hosted by Ian Woosnam, staged at the breathtaking Apes Hill – one of the most spectacular and distinctive venues in world golf.

Set 1,000 feet above sea level, Apes Hill’s championship course is the jewel of Caribbean golf. With sweeping views across the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Caribbean Sea on the other, the 18‑hole course offers a thrilling challenge. Designed by renowned architect Ron Kirby, it winds through dramatic gullies, lush tropical terrain and pristine fairways, delivering a layout that rewards confident shot‑making and imagination in equal measure. Sustainability is woven into every contour, making it not only one of the region’s most scenic courses but also one of the most forward‑thinking.

For Stenson, it’s a fitting stage for the next chapter of a remarkable career that has seen him lift trophies around the globe and stand among the game’s elite. “I haven’t been to Barbados since 2006,” he said. “It’s an amazing island with lovely people, and Apes Hill looks like a beautiful course. It’ll be fun to get back. I still feel like I’ve got something to give on the competitive side. I’ve always been a competitor, that doesn’t really go away.”

Stenson is joined by a formidable field, including defending champion and 2025 Order of Merit winner Scott Hend, whose final‑round heroics last year perfectly encapsulated his attacking style. Starting the final day four shots behind, the Australian produced a brilliant course‑record 64 to finish 11‑under‑par and claim his second Staysure Legends Tour title, completing a redemptive story after his play‑off defeat the year before.

Reflecting on that win, Hend said: “I feel like I’ve won it twice. It’s nice to redeem myself after last year’s loss to Bakes [Peter Baker] in the play‑off. I thought if I could get my score to double digits I might get lucky given the wind. I love collecting trophies and it’s great to be back in the winner’s circle again.”

Host Ian Woosnam, the 1991 Masters Champion and former World No. 1, once again leads the tournament that carries his name. “Having Henrik in the field this year is a wonderful addition,” said Woosnam. “From the moment we brought the Tour to Apes Hill, the players recognised it was something special. It’s world‑class competition in one of the most beautiful places on Earth, a pure celebration of golf.”

For golfers who have dreamed of teeing it up alongside Ryder Cup legends and Major champions, the Staysure Legends Tour offers a rare opportunity to step inside the ropes and live the life of a professional. From playing an amateur Stableford tournament competition alongside icons of the game to sharing stories with them off the course, it is an experience unlike anything else in sport. The Legends Experience returns this year as part of the Barbados Legends, giving amateurs the chance to share the fairways with players like Stenson and Hend in true tournament conditions – an unforgettable blend of competition, camaraderie and island hospitality.

For Stenson, Barbados represents both a debut and a new beginning: “If you know how to win, that instinct stays,” he said. “You just need to put yourself in the right position again.”

The Barbados Legends hosted by Ian Woosnam takes place 24-26 April at Apes Hill, Barbados. Live scoring and updates available at www.legendstour.com
