Damon Hill

Ex-Formula 1 World Champion Damon Hill is back to try his best at Trump International Golf Links this summer. While he still gets his thrills watching the on-track battles in his motorsport love, he’s also revved up for his return to this event and more specifically this venue: “I am so excited to return to Aberdeen and to get the opportunity to play this extraordinary golf course again! I played there for the first time last year and I absolutely loved it. It’s not an easy course though – tough rough!”

“We are so lucky to get these opportunities to play with top professionals. As an amateur you learn so much and we get to meet people from all walks of life. Golf is a great game for that.”

As for the chance to play alongside past Major winners and Ryder Cup captain’s – that’s a special moment, even for someone like Damon Hill who has been to the very top of his sport: “It’s just amazing. So many golf legends are playing and golf history is embodied within these players. For a golf geek like me, it’s a humbling and memorable experience to play with them – and I get to boast about it to my friends! Sad but true!”

Hill will no doubt be heading to the practice range before teeing it up on July 31st in the Luxe Scot Celebrity Pro-Am, as he’s not overly confident his golf game is where he would like it to be: “It’s absolutely all over the place! I have been training for a charity bike ride at the expense of my golf – so I am kind of preparing for disaster!”

Scott Quinnell

Scott Quinnell player rugby union for Wales, winning 52 caps for his country and 3 for the British and Irish Lions. The former number-8 is now loving life working on his golf game and can’t wait to test himself against the Trump International Golf Links once again: “I’m so excited to be going back. I was lucky enough to play Trump International Golf Links last year and I have to say that it is one of the best courses I have ever played on.

“Having been lucky enough to play sport at the highest level, getting to play now in the Luxe Scot Celebrity Pro-Am is just a glimpse into the life of a golf professional. It’s obviously a bit more nerve-wracking on the first tee, but the camaraderie around the professional players, the celebrities and our playing partners makes it all the more special.

“It’s just a wonderful opportunity to meet your heroes. Spending time with people that you grew up watching and who you wanted to be. I haven’t been able to say that in a long time!

“My golf game is the same as my time playing number-8, good days and bad days!”

Roberto Di Matteo

Former Lazio and Chelsea midfielder Roberto Di Matteo is a keen golfer these days too. The ex-Italian International footballer is putting his mind onto the links and ensuring he performs well at the end of this month: “I’m very excited as I believe Trump International Golf Links is one of the best golf courses anywhere in the world! I have played there a few times and I have loved it each time a little bit more. It is an amazing golf course.

“It is a real pleasure to join some of the best players in the history of golf, playing in the Luxe Scot Celebrity Pro-Am. They are all so very humble and make you feel at ease, despite our obvious limitations on playing their game.

“It is an incredible line-up this year – wow! My game is in good shape – I’ll say no more!”

Gavin Hastings

Ex-Scotland rugby international Gavin Hastings OBE is widely regarded as one of the greatest Scottish rugby players of all time. The fullback won 61 caps for his country (20 as captain) and played on two tours with the British and Irish Lions.

Hastings is excited about the competition between celebrities and former athletes as they play alongside Legends Tour professionals. He’s up for the challenge in Aberdeenshire once again this year: “Having played this event last year for the first time, I am very excited to be returning to play Trump International Golf Links. It is a big golf course with terrific views from the tees, and it provides you with a stern challenge from the wide fairways and large greens which means that you have to be accurate with your approach shots.

“Playing with Tour professionals is always a great experience and the fact that this year there is such a strong professional line-up is a testament to the attraction of playing this course in such a prestigious tournament,

“I’m not sure who the best celebrity golfer is, but one thing is for sure – none of us ever lose our competitive element. I just hope there are not too many bandits playing this year! My handicap is probably a bit too low to compete with some of the others, but I will be trying as always.”
