This is the first time the Legends Tour have come to Mexico and the WCM Mexico Senior Open has attracted notable players, including:
Corey Pavin (USA) – US Open champion and former Ryder Cup captain
Shaun Micheel (USA) – PGA Championship winner
Alex Cejka (GER)- Three-time Senior Major champion
Angel Cabrera (ARG) – Masters and US Open champion
Michael Campbell (NZ) – US Open champion
Costantino Rocca (ITA) and Jean Van de Velde (FRA) – Ryder Cup and European Tour winners
Adilson da Silva (BRA) – Current leader in the Order of Merit rankings who can secure his position in the 2024 MCB Road to Mauritius with a strong performance.
The WCM Mexico Senior Open tournament will be hosted at the Pacifico Golf Course in Punta Mita, a Jack Nicklaus signature design. This year is particularly special as both the resort and golf course celebrate their 25th anniversary.
These players in particular have the credentials and are clearly up for the challenge:
Corey Pavin
“It’s always great to come back here.
“It’s a Nicklaus course. So, your shots into the greens have to be pretty accurate. Greens have a little bit of movement on them.
“So, it’s a little more fun to play. Fairways are ample. So you just hit good, solid drives you can give yourself good shots into the greens. But it’s all about the second shots out here and chipping and putting”.
Steven Alker
With eight wins on the PGA Champions Tour, the 2022 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship and winner of both the Charles Schwab Cup in 2022 and the last week’s 2024 Cup, the New Zealander comes into this week in top form.
Rich Beem
“The relaxation factor is off the charts. I mean, if you can’t relax down here, you can’t relax anywhere on the planet.
“But, you know, we’re going to have to go out there and get the ball. I know I’m going to”.
Adilson da Silva
The MCB Road to Mauritius current number one has two wins, two runners-up finishes and a tied-3rd to his name this season. He’s rarely outside the top-10. A top three finish here and depending on how his rivals score this week could see Adilson crowned the 2024 MCB Road to Mauritius Champion.
