A universal success since its inception, the Alliance Series provides an exclusive opportunity for amateurs to live the life of a golf legend in front of crowds and TV cameras. Amateur players can tee it up with two professionals in a team event format during the main Legends Tour event as they experience what it is like to compete at the highest level under the pressure of competition.
In 2023, some of the world’s finest golfers have been confirmed to compete in Legends Tour events – meaning Alliance Series players could be teeing it up alongside them for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Four-time DP World Tour winner Paul McGinley, who led Europe to victory at the 2014 Ryder Cup, will be returning to his homeland between June 23-25 as he plays in the Irish Legends at Seapoint Golf Links – a rising star in the ranks of Irish links courses and located on the East coast just an hour north of Dublin. The Irishman made three consecutive Ryder Cup appearances between 2002 and 2006 and is memorably remembered for holing a 10ft putt in the 2002 Ryder Cup at The Belfry to secure the half point Europe needed for victory.
As part of the Alliance Series (€10,000 per person), participants will receive two rounds alongside the Legends Tour players, with the top 15 playing the Championship Sunday prior to the professionals. Amateurs will also receive a spot in the Celebrity Series and will be given four nights’ accommodation at the four-star D-Hotel in Drogheda.
Several top players have also been confirmed for the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship, a tournament which will this year be played at a new venue as the spectacular Trump International Golf Links Aberdeen makes its Legends Tour debut between August 23-27.
Ian Woosnam has been confirmed to play in the event. The Welshman has 52 professional wins to his name, including the 1991 US Masters. Joining Woosnam in Scotland will be fellow Major winner Michael Campbell – who famously won the US Open in 2005 at Pinehurst by memorably holding off Tiger Woods over the closing holes – and defending champion Adilson da Silva, who captured his maiden Legends Tour victory by six strokes at Formby Golf Club & Formby Ladies Golf Club last year.
With three rounds and an extra Celebrity Series round included, Alliance Series places are priced at £12,000 with four nights’ accommodation at the official tournament hotel.
Woosnam has also been confirmed to play the Jersey Legends between June 8-11. Taking place at the stunning links at La Moye Golf Club, those playing in the Alliance Series (£8,000 per person) will get to play three rounds of golf – one in the Celebrity Series and two in the Alliance Series – while also staying three nights in the official tournament hotel, receiving a bespoke gift pack and invitations to all exclusive functions.
Alongside all three events will be Celebrity Series which kick off an incredible week of golf. The Celebrity Series offers amateurs the chance to play with a golf legend and a star-studded field of celebrities in front of crowds during a pro-am experience.
Former England cricket captain Sir Andrew Strauss, 1996 Formula One World Champion Damon Hill and broadcaster Dan Walker are just some of the famous faces to have competed in Celebrity Series, and will be joined this year by the likes of legendary jockey AP McCoy and former Liverpool great Robbie Fowler.
The Celebrity Series event is priced at £2,500 in Jersey and Scotland, and €2,500 per person in Ireland.
Phil Harrison, chief executive officer of the Legends Tour, said: “The Alliance Series is the ultimate experience for amateur golfers who wish to live the life of a golfer for what is an incredible few days.
“This year we are delighted to welcome back greats of the game like Paul McGinley, Ian Woosnam and Michael Campbell – providing Alliance Series players with the chance to tee it up alongside Major winners and former Ryder Cup captains.
“There has never been a more exciting time than now to sign up to take part in the Legends Tour events, so why not sign up to walk the fairways with ‘Legends’ of the game and experience first-class hospitality in stunning destinations.”
The upcoming Legends Tour season promises to be the biggest since its rebranding in 2020, with larger fields, record-breaking prize funds and new venues hosting major events.
