Phil Harrison, Legends Tour CEO said: “We are delighted to have OFX on board as the Irish Legends title sponsor and as the new Official FX Partner of the Legends Tour.

“As a global tour, staging tournaments and working with players and fans across four different continents, there is a natural alignment in having OFX as part of our team.

Speaking at a press conference to announce the deal at Seapoint Golf Links, Alex Edwards – Head of Corporate at OFX said, “We’re super excited to be partnering with the Legends Tour and very proud to be title sponsor of the Irish Legends.

“We are an international payments company, specialising in supporting businesses worldwide and high net worth individuals, consumers make and receive currency payments as well as managing FX exposure that a lot of mid-size companies do have.

“Like the Legends Tour, we are well established, we’ve just celebrated our 25th anniversary. We are really looking forward to the next few years and we’re also excited about playing a bit more golf as we are all golf enthusiasts too!”

Carr golf operate Seapoint Golf Links in County Louth and have made a significant investment over recent years in the site, with Roddy Carr saying all at Seapoint are delighted at the news, “I spoke with Des Smyth the co-host and he was absolutely thrilled about the new sponsor and the increase in the prize money.

“We had a really successful year last year, the feedback we had from all of the guys – they had a ball here and loved coming to play links golf. It’s becoming more and more scarce in world golf and a lot of the corporate stuff goes to the parkland course so they really do love coming here, particularly people like Ian Woosnam and Michael Campbell.

“Our expectations now are to showcase the course even better than it was last year – I think it’s come up a notch since Carr Golf took over running the golf course. To take it up a level and to let people see from a tourism point of view, that there is a beautiful links experience here with an old-fashioned welcome and that’s what we’re really trying to promote here at Seapoint Golf Links.”

Paul McGinley was also at the press conference, where he was announced as a Legends Tour ambassador, although sadly he is unable to play in this year’s Irish Legends event, “It’s a real shame, I loved hosting this event when it was up at Rosapenna in Donegal and I know it was hugely successful here last year. It’s such a shame that I can’t do this year – this is a date that was in the diary for two-and-a-half years.

“It’s not just for me where I’m making a lot of money, it’s for my foundation where I’m hosting a group from America who support the foundation very strongly. Unfortunately, it was a clash – but next year I hope to be back and playing.

“When you put the name Irish in front of a golf tournament it’s always going to be successful – Irish Opens have always been successful, Irish Legends have been hugely successful. Then you throw in links golf on top of that and it’s something special.

“I’m sure it’ll be a great success, great winner last year in Peter Baker who went on to have a phenomenal year, maybe the best year anybody has ever had in Senior’s golf from a European point of view. I am sure this will be no different this year with another strong field.

The return of the tournament to Seapoint Golf Links in County Louth has been supported by Fáilte Ireland, the National Tourism Development Authority. They support long-term sustainable growth in the economic, social, cultural and environmental contribution of tourism to Ireland.

Martin Donnelly from Fáilte Ireland said: “Failte Ireland are delighted to support the return of The OFX Irish Legends event to Seapoint Golf Links.  It will be wonderful to see legends of golf arrive onto the property and Ireland’s Ancient East in June, to once again showcase the world class golf product and wider experience the region has to offer.

“We applaud the team at Seapoint for hosting the event for a second year and we look forward to working with them and the Legends Tour team to drive as much publicity for the property and wider Ireland’s Ancient East region, that the event provides the opportunity to do.”
