The announcement of the new event continues the Legends Tour’s long-running association with French golf and brings together one of the biggest names in French golf history with Jean van de Velde, his business partner Alain Pelillo and their company VDV Partners, with the Legends Tour and the Fédération Française de Golf.
Golf de Saint-Cloud is located on the outskirts of the French capital of Paris and offers stunning views of the Eiffel Tower. It has hosted the Open de France, the oldest national Open in Continental Europe, 14 times and is the traditional host of the French Junior International Championship.
The tournament will be played in the popular Alliance Pro-Am format, where amateur players are given the incredible opportunity to tee it up alongside the stars of the Legends Tour in competition play. Each amateur player will play alongside two professionals during all three days of the tournament and will compete on their own leaderboard, with an Alliance Pro-Am champion crowned at the end of the week.
Jean van de Velde, the two-time European Tour winner, former Ryder Cup player and tournament host, said: “This is a fantastic development for French golf and we are so excited to be hosting the Legends Open de France later this year.
“I must thank Ryan Howsam and Mark Aspland from the Legends Tour for their help in organising this event, as well as Pascal Grizot and the Fédération Française de Golf for their support.
“We are all looking forward to hosting an enjoyable and successful event in September.”
Mark Aspland, Head of the Legends Tour, said: “Jean van de Velde is an iconic name in French golf and we are thrilled he has agreed to work with us on the Legends Open de France.
“The Legends Tour has a long history of hosting tournaments in France and by continuing that association with a trip to such an outstanding venue in Golf Saint Cloud, with the help of VDV Partners and Pascal Grizot, I believe this is the start of a new chapter for over-50s golf in France.”
Pascal Grizot, the President of the French Golf Federation, said: “We are very pleased that the Legends Open de France can regain its place in the Legends Tour calendar and it is only natural that the Fédération Française de Golf has given its support to the organisers and to Jean Van de Velde in particular. Golf de Saint-Cloud will be a magnificent theatre to welcome players who have marked the history of European and world golf.”
