The Staysure Legends Tour welcomes one of the most successful English golfers of his generation this month, as former World Number One Lee Westwood makes his Tour debut at the Staysure English Legends.
Westwood will make his first appearance on the Staysure Legends Tour at Chart Hills Golf Club from 28–30 August, bringing more than three decades of experience at the very highest level of the game to a field packed with Major champions, Ryder Cup players and Tour winners.
Few players have been as consistent a presence at the top of European golf as Westwood. A winner of 44 professional titles around the world, the Englishman has won across four continents, reached World Number One and built one of the most distinguished Ryder Cup records in the history of the competition.
Westwood said:
“I’m looking forward to playing the Staysure English Legends Tournament at Chart Hills and making my first appearance on the Staysure Legends Tour. There’ll be a lot of familiar faces there, guys I’ve played with and against for a long time, so it should be a good week.
“I’ve always enjoyed playing in front of a home crowd. The support you get in England is always great, so it’ll be nice to get out there at Chart Hills and hopefully give everyone something to enjoy.”
Westwood first reached the summit of the Official World Golf Ranking in 2010, ending Tiger Woods’ five-year reign as World Number One. He would go on to spend 22 weeks at the top, part of a remarkable period in which he established himself as one of the leading players in the world.
His longevity has been just as impressive. Westwood topped the European Tour’s season-long standings three times, first in 2000 and again in 2009, before winning the Race to Dubai in 2020 – 20 years after first finishing the season as Europe’s Number One.
That ability to perform across generations has been a defining feature of Westwood’s career. He has recorded victories around the world and regularly challenged on golf’s biggest stages, finishing runner-up three times in Major Championships and recording a remarkable 19 top-ten finishes across the four Majors.
But perhaps nowhere has Westwood’s contribution to European golf been more significant than in the Ryder Cup.
Westwood represented Europe 11 times between 1997 and 2021, putting him among the competition’s most experienced players. Across more than two decades, he was part of seven winning European teams and contributed 24 points, playing alongside several generations of Europe’s greatest players.
His Ryder Cup story continued beyond his playing career when he served as a Vice Captain for Thomas Bjørn’s victorious European team in Paris in 2018.
Now, Westwood begins a new chapter on the Staysure Legends Tour, joining a growing group of players he competed alongside throughout his career.
His first appearance comes on home soil at the Staysure English Legends, which comes to Chart Hills for three days of tournament action in the Kent countryside.
Ryan Howsam, Chairman of the Staysure Legends Tour, said:
“To welcome a player of Lee’s calibre to the Staysure Legends Tour is hugely exciting. He has been one of the defining figures in European golf for more than three decades and his record at the very highest level speaks for itself.
“From reaching World Number One and winning around the world to representing Europe in 11 Ryder Cups, Lee has achieved an enormous amount in the game.
“To have him make his debut at the Staysure English Legends makes it even more special. It gives fans the opportunity to see one of England’s greatest players begin this next chapter on home soil, and we’re looking forward to welcoming him to Chart Hills.”
Westwood’s arrival adds further strength to a Staysure English Legends field bringing together some of the most recognisable names from European golf.
Among those heading to Chart Hills is 2005 U.S. Open Champion Michael Campbell, alongside former Ryder Cup Captain Paul McGinley and defending champion Steve Webster, who returns to defend the title he won in 2025.
The week will begin with a special match play contest on Thursday 27 August, when Campbell partners former Premier League footballer and TV personality Jimmy Bullard against McGinley and leading golf content creator Peter Finch. The fourball will tee off at 8:00am ahead of the tournament Pro-Am, with fans invited to attend free of charge and follow the action around Chart Hills.
Once tournament play begins on Friday, spectators will be able to get close to the action across three days, walking the fairways alongside Westwood and some of the biggest names in the field.
Away from the action on the course, spectators can also visit the Destination Pavilion in the Tournament Village, where they can discover some of the Staysure Legends Tour’s leading golf destinations and enter competitions to win free golf holidays.
The Staysure English Legends takes place at Chart Hills Golf Club from 28–30 August. Tickets are free, register to attend here.
