Past Open Champions Zach Johnson, Henrik Stenson and Paul Lawrie will bid to join an exclusive club by adding the ISPS HANDA Senior Open title to their Major triumphs when they tee it up at Gleneagles from July 23-26.
Tickets are available to see some of golf’s most storied names at the King’s Course when Europe’s only Senior Major returns to the iconic Scottish venue. Gleneagles will host the ISPS HANDA Senior Open for a second time, having previously held the Championship in 2022. Click here for a 15% discount to purchase your tickets.
The trio will look to emulate defending champion Pádraig Harrington, who became the fifth player in history to win both The Open and the ISPS HANDA Senior Open as he cruised to a three-shot victory at Sunningdale last year, joining Darren Clarke, Sir Bob Charles, Gary Player and Tom Watson in achieving such feat.
Two-time Major winner Johnson, who won the Masters Tournament in 2007, The Open in 2015 and captained Team USA at the Ryder Cup in 2023, will make his ISPS HANDA Senior Open debut this July.
The American only turned 50 in February but already has two victories under his belt on the PGA TOUR Champions, coming at the James Hardie Pro Football Hall of Fame Invitational on his debut, and the recent Principal Charity Classic.
“I’m really excited to head to Gleneagles next month and make my first appearance in this prestigious event,” Johnson said.
“It’s going to be fun to play the King’s Course and I would love to win my first Senior Major trophy.
“I know just how passionate golf fans in Scotland are and it’s going to be great to play in front of them again.”
Stenson, who won The Open in 2016 at Royal Troon, was part of the European Ryder Cup team that defeated the United States at Gleneagles in 2014, and he is relishing the prospect of returning next month for his first ISPS HANDA Senior Open.
“I am really looking forward to making my ISPS HANDA Senior Open debut in July,” he said. “I have special memories at Gleneagles from 2014, and it is a wonderful venue.
“We have a very strong field and I’m excited to have the opportunity to join an exclusive club of golfers to win both the ISPS HANDA Senior Open trophy and the Claret Jug.”
Scotsman Lawrie, who triumphed in The Open on a memorable afternoon at Carnoustie Golf Links in 1999, already has three Staysure Legends Tour titles to his name but would love to add a Senior Major to his impressive back catalogue.
“The ISPS HANDA Senior Open is one of the highlights of the golfing calendar and I’m sure it is going to be another special week on home soil,” Lawrie said.
“The field has historically been incredibly strong and that shows just how highly this Championship is regarded by the players. To have the ISPS HANDA Senior Open trophy sit alongside my Claret Jug would be a dream come true.”
