South African James Kingston opened the defence of his Italian Senior Open title with a 3 under par round 68 to lead the field at The Argentario Golf and Wellness Resort.
Kingston, the current leader of the 2022 Legends Tour Order of Merit shot 6 birdies and 3 bogeys in overcast, gusty conditions. He holds a one shot lead over the rest of the field.
“I played pretty solid, I am disappointed I made two really stupid mistakes on two par 3s; I three-putted on two of them… but in general I feel I played nicely. I always say, first round is like getting out of the blocks in a 100m race, it’s just a good start, that’s all it is… we’ve just got to keep our foot on the pedal and try and play nicely in the next two days”
The scores are tight at the par 71 course after 18 holes, with nearly half the field within 5 shots of the lead. Also scoring well in their opening rounds were Italian Emanuele Canonica, Argentina’s Ricardo Gonzalez and Swiss André Bossert who are a shot behind the leader at -2.
