Johan Edfors produced a stunning final-round 64 to come from four shots back and win the European Legends Cup by SR Nexus at Fontanals Golf, securing his second Staysure Legends Tour title of the season.

The Swede began Sunday on seven-under-par but surged through a congested leaderboard with eight birdies to finish on -15, three shots clear after a dramatic final day in La Cerdanya.

Steve Webster and Robert Coles were among Edfors’ closest challengers, while Stephen Gallacher finished tied fifth on -10 to move to the top of the Road to Cambodia Order of Merit.

Victory adds to Edfors’ triumph at the OFX Irish Legends earlier this season, where he claimed his maiden Staysure Legends Tour title, and caps another impressive week for the three-time DP World Tour winner.

“I’m feeling great, obviously,” said Edfors. “I did really well today and made plenty of good putts on the back nine. I didn’t really know how I was standing.

“I saw the leaderboard when I was on 16 and realised if I made three pars coming in, I should have a pretty good chance of winning. I managed to do that, so that was nice.”

Putting proved key to Edfors’ victory, with the Swede improving with every round at Fontanals after opening with a level-par 72 before following it with rounds of 65 and 64.

“I’ve been putting really, really well,” he added. “I’ve been starting the ball on line and I’ve been good with the pace as well. With greens this good, you’re going to hole a few putts, and I holed my fair share.”

Edfors had ground to make up as overnight leader Bradley Dredge and Webster set the early pace. Webster wiped out Dredge’s one-shot advantage with a birdie at the first before both picked up another shot at the par-five second.

Coles soon joined the battle at the top, while Edfors steadily worked his way into contention. Dredge’s first bogey of the week at the tenth opened the door further, and by the time Coles rolled in a 20-foot birdie putt at the 13th to take the outright lead on -14, Edfors was firmly in the hunt.

A birdie at the 13th moved the Swede to -12 before the final round swung decisively in his favour.

Coles found the water at the 14th as Edfors embarked on the run that would ultimately decide the tournament. Four consecutive birdies carried him through the field and into the outright lead, with an eight-foot putt at the 15th completing the charge and putting him in control.

From there, Edfors refused to give his challengers an opening.

A huge drive at the 16th finished close to the water’s edge before he found the left side of the green with a wedge and narrowly missed a 45-foot birdie attempt. At the 17th, he used his putter from just off the green to set up another comfortable par.

Webster’s bogey at the 16th had stretched Edfors’ advantage to three, and another powerful drive and controlled wedge into the 18th left the Swede with two putts to complete the victory.

He duly tapped in for par to sign for a superb 64 and complete a four-shot final-day comeback for his second win of the season.

“It’s been a fantastic week,” said Edfors. “The weather has been unbelievable and the views here are phenomenal as well. The condition of the golf course is as good as it can be really, so overall it’s just been a fantastic week.”

Gallacher now leads the Road to Cambodia Order of Merit on 2,565 points following his tied-fifth finish on -10, while Edfors’ victory sees him climb to second on 2,462.5 points, narrowly ahead of Mikael Lundberg in third on 2,438.

With the battle at the top of the Road to Cambodia finely poised, the Staysure Legends Tour now heads to China for the Reignwood Legends Championship at Reignwood Pine Valley from 2 – 4 October.
