Choi made history last year at Carnoustie as he became the first South Korean player to win a Senior Major Championship, finishing two strokes ahead of Richard Green on the famed Angus links.

The 54-year-old was the first Korean player to earn a PGA TOUR card, competing in his rookie season in 2000, and he went on to win eight times, including a PLAYERS Championship victory in 2011.

“I am still incredibly proud to have become my country’s first Senior Major champion and I am very excited to defend The Senior Open at Sunningdale in July,” said Choi, who will also compete in The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush the week before.

“The Senior Open is held in such high regard in Korea and it is a tournament we enjoy travelling to play.

“The standard is so high, so to be able to call myself a winner of The Senior Open is something I will always cherish.”

Langer, who last week competed in his 41st and final Masters Tournament, is the most successful over-50s golfer in history, with a record 12 Senior Major Championships and 47 victories on PGA TOUR Champions to his name.

The German has been a remarkable model of consistency since turning 50 in 2007, winning his 12 Senior Major titles across a 13-year period. His first came at the 2010 Senior Open at Carnoustie, with his most recent at the 2023 U.S. Senior Open at SentryWorld in Wisconsin.

He equalled Hale Irwin’s long-standing record of 45 PGA TOUR Champions victories in February 2023, before winning his 46th and 47th titles at the 2023 U.S. Senior Open and 2024 Charles Schwab Cup Championship.

“The Senior Open is an event I have always enjoyed playing and I am delighted to have won the Championship on four occasions,” said the two-time Masters Tournament winner. “I still have that competitive fire in me and I’m looking forward to returning to Sunningdale for a fourth time later this year.”

Langer was runner-up to Marco Dawson at Sunningdale in 2015 and finished fourth in both 2009 and 2021 when the Championship was held at the same venue. In 16 consecutive appearances, he has finished no lower than T12.
Tickets are available from £20 for adults and £10 for youths (16-24). Under-16s are free with a paying adult. Ticket+ options are also available, with access to a reserved raised viewing area overlooking the second and 13th holes as well as meal and drinks vouchers. To view all ticket options, click here.

About the Senior Open

The Senior Open will take place at Sunningdale for the fourth time as the iconic Berkshire venue hosts Europe’s only Senior Major Championship from July 24-27, 2025.
Sunningdale previously hosted the Championship in 2009, 2015 and 2021, with Loren Roberts, Marco Dawson and Stephen Dodd winning the Senior Open trophy on those occasions.

The 2024 Senior Open saw K.J. Choi make history as the first South Korean to win a men’s Senior Major Championship, finishing two strokes ahead of Australia’s Richard Green.

Bernhard Langer became the first golfer in history to win The Senior Open four times with his victory in 2019 at Royal Lytham & St Annes – moving ahead of Gary Player and Tom Watson with whom he previously shared three wins. The German also broke his own record of Senior Major Championship victories – securing his 11th at Royal Lytham & St Annes and since adding a 12th at the 2023 U.S. Senior Open.

The Senior Open was introduced in 1987 at Turnberry in Ayrshire when Neil Coles, the former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the European Tour group, won the inaugural title. This led, two years later, to the formal inception of what is now the Legends Tour. It has since been held at some of the United Kingdom’s most historic and renowned venues, including the Old Course at St Andrews, Royal County Down, Carnoustie, Royal Birkdale, Royal Portrush and Royal Lytham & St Annes.
