The Costa Navarino Legends Tour Trophy returns this week as the Staysure Legends Tour heads back to one of its most popular destinations, with defending champion and Ryder Cup star Peter Baker aiming to successfully defend the title he won in such emphatic fashion 12 months ago.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Messinia in south-west Greece, Costa Navarino has quickly established itself as one of the standout stops on the Staysure Legends Tour schedule, combining world-class golf with one of Europe’s leading luxury destinations.

Few events on the schedule boast a stronger blend of current form and championship pedigree. Defending champion Peter Baker will face stiff competition from Staysure Marbella Legends winner Jamie Donaldson and Barbados Legends champion Greg Owen, who arrives in Greece after a superb run of results that also includes a top-10 finish at the Senior PGA Championship. Major winners Paul Lawrie and Michael Campbell also tee it up this week, while Ryder Cup legends Colin Montgomerie and Ian Woosnam are among a field that combines some of the game’s most decorated champions with many of the Tour’s current standout performers.

Baker returns to Costa Navarino with particularly fond memories after producing one of the finest performances of his senior career in 2025. The former Ryder Cup player claimed a commanding six-shot victory while completing the entire tournament without dropping a single shot, securing his eighth Staysure Legends Tour title.

Looking back on that remarkable week, Baker still ranks the victory among his very best.

“Very, very high up there really,” said Baker. “I think because we got through the week without a bogey, that’s obviously a big thing. I think I’ve only ever done that once many, many years ago but didn’t win. So to win and not have a bogey was fantastic.”

The Englishman believes returning to a venue where he has enjoyed such success provides an extra layer of confidence heading into the week.

“I think it does,” he said. “It’s nice to know you’ve obviously played the course well and it’s such a stunning place. It’s great to come back and the course suits me. It’s nice to be back and I’m looking forward to it.”

Now an eight-time Legends Tour winner and the 2023 Order of Merit champion, Baker remains one of the circuit’s most consistent performers. He believes success around Costa Navarino starts with one key element.

“Off the tee is very, very important around here,” he said. “It’s quite tight, so you’ve got to hit it well. Last year I drove it very well, put it in the right positions and then hit my irons well and made a few putts, which is what you’ve got to do to win.”

Players will once again face a unique challenge this week, with the tournament played across both the International Olympic Academy Golf Course and The Hills Course.

“You could argue that one is a little bit easier than the other,” said Baker. “There are probably a few more birdie chances on The Hills Course, so you’d like to have a good round there to set yourself up for the other two days. But they’re similar in that you’ve got to hit it straight off the tee.”

One of the defining features of the Costa Navarino Legends Tour Trophy is the opportunity it provides amateur golfers to compete alongside Ryder Cup players, Major champions and Legends Tour stars under genuine tournament conditions through the Legends Experience.

“I think it’s brilliant,” said Baker. “For the amateurs particularly, what an experience. They get to come to fantastic places, this being right up there with the best, and experience playing with top golfers under tournament conditions. I don’t think there’s anywhere else you can do that.”

Whether Baker can successfully defend his title remains to be seen, but with another world-class field assembled and Costa Navarino once again providing a spectacular setting, the stage is set for another memorable week on the Staysure Legends Tour.
