The Legends Tour returns to Constance Belle Mare Plage this week for its season finale on the acclaimed Legend Course, where the closing chapter of the 2025 campaign will be written on one of the Tour’s most beloved stages.
This year’s MCB Mauritius Legends completes a season-ending $1.9 million trilogy of events across Cambodia and Mauritius, with the competitive spotlight firmly on Peter Baker who can etch his name into history with a third consecutive Mauritius title.
Baker’s record on the Legend Course has become a defining story of recent seasons, highlighted by last year’s dramatic closing stretch; a birdie-birdie finish for a final-round 68, then three more birdies on the par-five 18th in extra holes to prevail. The Englishman’s connection with the island remains strong.
“Mauritius is a beautiful island and the people are so welcoming — we love coming back. The resort is first-class, the food is wonderful, and the course is a great test,” said Baker, a former Ryder Cup player and eight-time Legends Tour winner. “Any time you win somewhere it gives you extra confidence, so having won the last two years definitely helps. Three in a row would be pretty amazing. I’ll be trying my hardest to play well and feed off the confidence from previous years.”
The spectacular Legend Course at Constance Belle Mare Plage, a par-72 layout designed by Hugh Baiocchi, provide a special setting for this event. Nestled in a former hunting reserve and lined with water hazards, the course winds through lush woodland on Mauritius’ breathtaking east coast. Its iconic 17th hole – a dramatic par 3 over a coastal inlet – remains a favourite among players and fans alike. And it’s particular memorable for Baker.
“I hit a great shot into 17 to make a birdie two,” said Baker. “It’s a hole I’ve always struggled with for some reason, but this time I hit it to about six feet and holed it. I then kept it going, hit some great shots into 18 in the play-off and luckily played my best golf at the end and won it.”
While the narrative in Mauritius centres on Baker’s historic chase, the season-long race is already decided. Following his strong performance at the Vattanac Legends Championship Legacy Edition, Scott Hend has pulled clear and is already confirmed as the 2025 Legends Tour Order of Merit winner.
Hend’s campaign has been defined by victories at the European Legends Cup, hosted by José María Olazábal, and the Barbados Legends, hosted by Ian Woosnam, including a course-record charge in Barbados — home in just 30 strokes and birdies at 15, 16 and 17. That win was emblematic of a season marked by poise and timely execution. Speaking after clinching the title Hend said: “Being paired with Bakes [Peter Baker] and knowing I had a few people ahead of me, I figured if I could finish in front of him, I’d have a lead going into Mauritius. Fortunately for me, the lead is now big enough that I’ve secured the Order of Merit.’’
And on completing his season goals: “I set little goals throughout the year — first to finish inside the top 10, then to get a win, and winning the Order of Merit itself is another goal ticked off. I like trophies, and I want to keep collecting them.”
The Order of Merit might be decided but the battle for the Barry Lane Rookie of the Year award is also still very much alive as the Legends Tour season concludes at Constance Belle Mare Plage in Mauritius.
Four stand-out performers — Darren Fichardt, David Drysdale, Stephen Gallacher and Matt Cort — remain firmly in contention for the award for the leading debutant on the Order of Merit. All have enjoyed impressive debut campaigns that have showcased both the depth and competitiveness of the senior circuit, that this year was also joined by the likes of David Howell, Anthony Wall and Johan Edfors, along with Jamie Donaldson and Steve Webster who have both recorded wins this season.
