During the 1980s and 1990s, Ian ‘Woosie’ Woosnam was a name never far away from the top of the leaderboard. A winner on both the PGA and European Tours, the highlight of his career was undoubtedly his Masters’ triumph in 1991.

Paul is not only the first Irishman to captain the Ryder Cup team, but he is also a winning captain, victorious at the 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.

The most successful Danish golfer of all time, Thomas Bjørn has claimed 15 European Tour titles to date. Back in 1996 Bjørn became the first Dane to win a European Tour event and undoubtedly trailblazed the way for Danish golf.  

A serial winner on tour and on senior tours, four top 5 finishes in the Open, a Ryder Cup captaincy and a successful battle against ill health represent the strength of Mark James.

John Daly won the 1995 Open at St Andrews, beating Constantino Rocca in a play-off. Only one shot further behind and in his first full season on the European Tour was New Zealand’s Michael Campbell. Campbell had been two shots ahead at the start of the final round, but this valuable experience would hold him in good stead ten years later.

Many golfers are successful. Some win numerous Majors, some spend weeks as world number one, some win on all tours globally. Not only is Paul Lawrie a successful golfer, but he has two iconic golf moments that golf fans will remember forever.

Tom Lehman is the only player in history to be voted ‘Player of Year’ on all three tours operated by the PGA Tour. This is a testament to the consistent nature of his golf, where on the PGA Tour, he not only won five times, but was runner up 19 times in between 1992 and 2006.

The name Jean van de Velde is synonymous with French golf.   Arguably Jean has done more to promote the game in France than any other golfer.

Alex Cejka’s life has already been a fairy tale. Winning the 2021 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship is another part of a spectacular epilogue for the 50-year-old.

It was the fist pumping rookie, Phillip Price’s 3&2 victory over Phil Mickelson that helped Sam Torrance’s European team beat the USA at the Belfry in 2002.

Since joining the European Senior Tour, Barry has preserved his reputation as a fierce competitor and a regular winner. There are not many golfers who lead after the 3rd round then shoot 66 in the final round to win by three, defeating Major winner Angel Cabrera in the process.

A sixth place finish at the US Open in 1994 at Oakmont was the highlight of Clark’s PGA Tour career, but it has been his arrival in Europe that has seen his best golf. Now a five-time European Senior Tour winner, he seems at home on this ‘side of the Pond’.

Having missed out in a play-off in 2017 for one of the European Senior Tour Qualifying School’s five cards, the evergreen Shacklady returned in 2018 finishing fourth and getting his card.

2007 was the breakthrough year for James Kingston. A winner on the Sunshine and Asian Tours in the 90s, European Tour success finally arrived at the South African Airways Open. James also topped the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit that year.

Turned professional in 1985 and joined the European Challenge Tour in 1990.

Born in Finland, Sandelin grew up in Sweden. He developed a love for the game after playing mini-golf in the basement of a McDonald’s burger bar in Stockholm in 1977.
